Rosetta Brenda Hughley was born on February 8, 1952 in Independence, Louisiana. She was the second youngest of ten children born to Lula Mae and Ben Kendrick. At an early age, she was baptized, accepted Christ and joined the Church of God in Christ. She grew up in Kenner, Louisiana, moved to Los Angeles, California for most of her adult life, then resided in Mineral Springs, Arkansas, before returning to Los Angeles, California.
Brenda, affectionately known as “Tender Brenda”, graduated from Riverdale High School where she was active in several school activities including being a majorette. Brenda was also one of the founding members of a sisterhood of aspiring young women known as the Continental Wild Cats, forming a lifelong bond of support for one another. This group of young ladies was one of the first groups to employ the Gladiators, who later became the Batiste Brothers, family of Grammy Award Winner, John Batiste.
Brenda married Joseph Williams, Sr. after graduating high school. From this union, God blessed them with three children.
Brenda worked as a registered nurse at Keck USC Norris Cancer Hospital of Los Angeles, CA.
On February 6, 2023 in Carson, California Brenda’s eyes were gently closed and she was called home. Awaiting her arrival in heaven is Joseph Williams, Sr., Clinton Hughley, Sr.; her father and mother, Ben and Lula Mae Kendrick; sisters Marie Coleman, Geraldine Brown, and Sharon Hicks; brothers, Willie (Donna Jean), Earl (Rose), Euril, Charles, Robert Kendrick, and step-daughter Angelia Hughley Caston.
Brenda is survived by her daughter Dr. Angela Williams (Willie); sons, Joseph Williams, Jr. (Rhonda); and Travis Williams (Ebony); 11 grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11 A.M at MJR Friendly Service Funeral Home at 87 Paddio Johnson Lane, Hwy 1042 in Greensburg, LA, 70441. Arrangements entrusted to MJR Friendly Service Funeral Home. Denham Springs, La.
